Emerging tech progress in BRICS promotes devt for Global South

The new industrial revolution and advancements in emerging technologies by the BRICS have been boosting global development, particularly for the Global South. China has played a key role in fostering cooperation and growth among BRICS nations, participating officials and scholars told the Global Times on the sidelines of the BRICS Forum on Partnership on New Industrial Revolution 2024, held on Tuesday and Wednesday in Xiamen, East China's Fujian Province.

China has constantly played a constructive and supportive role since the inception of the BRICS cooperation mechanism, evolving from the financial side to the real economy, including the industrial sector, and is willing to share its experience in policy formation as well as in fields such as technological development, Zou Ciyong, deputy to the director general and managing director of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Industrial Development of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization told the Global Times. 

The BRICS mechanism represents hope for the Global South. The current financial and political order needs a strong voice for the developing countries, and networks and mechanisms including the BRICS help in coordinating among member states for more representation and a more prominent voice in the global architecture, Ambassador of Egypt to China Assem Hanafi told the Global Times.  

Iran has been developing its industrial section since the last three to four decades. Iran also is following to have more access to new industrial technologies. Iran and China could have very close cooperation in new industries and areas such as AI and green technologies, Reza Pirpiran, counselor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in China told the Global Times. 

Under the theme of "Fostering high-quality partnership and embarking on a new journey of new industrialization," the forum - organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Fujian Provincial People's Government - attracted over 500 participants, including representatives from 31 countries and regions.
