When talking about Chinese school uniforms, most people tend to use words like drab and uncool to describe them. But the new design of a middle school's uniforms in Dunhuang, Northwest China's Gansu Province, will definitely change their perception. Students there now wear vibrant uniforms inspired by artworks from the thousand-year-old Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Dunhuang. For example, the element of flowers wrapping the grass - a pattern from the cave temples - can now be seen on the collar of the school uniform, and the uniform's color resembles the architecture at Mogao. For local students, the fusion of Dunhuang traditional culture with their school life is already no surprise to them. In another middle school in the city, students perform a dance inspired by the flying apsaras in the Dunhuang murals as a part of their daily exercise. It is expected that more schools will take similar actions to make students fall in love with Dunhuang culture.
